Fuzhuan brick tea trial

Daily consumption of Fuzhuan brick tea improves lipid profile and vascular function associated with modulation in gut microbiota composition in healthy adults: a pilot randomized controlled trial

An open-label randomised trial assigned 120 healthy adults to two daily glasses of brewed FBT infusion (totaling 12 g/day) or water for 12 weeks. low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels were significantly reduced with FBT compared with water; effect estimate not reported in the abstract. vascular function improved with FBT compared with water; effect estimate not reported in the abstract.

Fermented dairy food intake during pregnancy

Associations between fermented dairy food intake during pregnancy and gestational weight gain, macrosomia, and gut microbiota

A cohort of participants in the GLOWING pregnancy cohort had mean fermented dairy food intake of 63 g/day. fermented dairy food intake was not significantly associated with gestational weight gain; effect estimate not reported in the abstract. fermented dairy food intake was not significantly associated with macrosomia; effect estimate not reported in the abstract. fermented dairy food intake was not associated with the maternal microbiome; effect estimate not reported in the abstract.

Medical-food interventions in CDKL5 deficiency disorder

Exploring medical food supplementation as an adjunct strategy for microbiota restoration and seizure reduction in CDKL5 deficiency disorder

A single-arm study enrolled 13 participants with drug-resistant epilepsy and CDKL5 deficiency disorder. MF1 contained alpha-lactalbumin, inulin, and fructo-oligosaccharides. MF2 contained the MF1 formulation supplemented with sodium butyrate. dose not reported in the abstract. monthly seizure frequency decreased in two participants during MF1; 52% and 57% reduction in monthly seizure frequency. monthly seizure frequency decreased in two participants during MF2; reductions greater than 90% during MF2 (94% and 100%, respectively).

STUDY DESCRIPTORRCT

Model: human participants.MODEL · HUMAN PARTICIPANTS

INTERPRETATION BOUNDARY

Data from human participants do not by themselves establish applicability beyond the population and outcomes studied. This was an open-label pilot trial.

STUDY DESCRIPTORCOHORT

Model: human participants.MODEL · HUMAN PARTICIPANTS

INTERPRETATION BOUNDARY

Data from human participants do not by themselves establish applicability beyond the population and outcomes studied. Because exposure was measured rather than assigned, this cohort cannot establish causation. The abstract noted limited variety and amount of fermented food consumed in this cohort.

STUDY DESCRIPTORSINGLE-ARM STUDY

Model: human participants.MODEL · HUMAN PARTICIPANTS

INTERPRETATION BOUNDARY

Data from human participants do not by themselves establish applicability beyond the population and outcomes studied. This single-arm study had no concurrent control group. Ten of 13 enrolled participants completed the longitudinal protocol. Seizure responses varied substantially between participants.
