Dietary fatty acids and cholesterol metabolism
A secondary analysis of a randomized crossover trial included 17 postmenopausal women with mild hypercholesterolemia. Participants consumed isocaloric diets enriched in stearic acid, palmitic acid or oleic acid for five weeks each, with two-week washouts. The analysis included fasting total primary bile acids. The cholesterol synthesis-to-absorption ratio was 22–24% lower after the stearic- and oleic-acid diets than after the palmitic-acid diet (p < 0.05).
Differential effects of stearic, palmitic and oleic acid enriched diets on gut microbiome, bile acid and cholesterol metabolism in mildly hypercholesterolemic post-menopausal females: A secondary analysis of a randomized controlled trial.

INTERPRETATION BOUNDARY
Data from human participants do not by themselves establish applicability beyond the population and outcomes studied. This was a secondary analysis of 17 participants; the abstract did not report the fatty-acid amounts in the diets.
