Heat-killed beLP1 and gastrointestinal symptoms

An 84-day randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial allocated 140 adults with excess weight and gastrointestinal discomfort to 100 mg of heat-killed Lactiplantibacillus plantarum beLP1 daily or placebo. The per-protocol analysis included 103 participants without protocol deviations. Gastrointestinal Symptom Rating Scale scores were lower with beLP1 at 42 days (p = 0.0215) and 84 days (p = 0.0394). The effect estimate was not reported in the abstract.

Pediococcus acidilactici PA53 and functional constipation

An eight-week randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial included 87 adults with functional constipation receiving one daily capsule containing thirty billion cells of Pediococcus acidilactici PA53 or placebo. At week 8, the Bristol Stool Form Scale score was 2.76 ± 0.93 BSFS points with PA53 versus 2.03 ± 0.85 BSFS points with placebo (p = 0.004). Bowel-movement frequency and biomarker findings did not differ significantly between groups. No adverse events were reported.
