Dietary fiber and blood pressure

A secondary analysis of a randomized trial assigned 35 adults with type 2 diabetes and hypertension to oat β-glucan or microcrystalline cellulose for 12 weeks. Systolic blood pressure changed by -11.2 ± 20.9 mmHg and -11.6 ± 17.0 mmHg, respectively, with no between-group difference (p = 0.965). Microbiota correlations were exploratory.

Lactobacillus with H. pylori eradication therapy

A meta-analysis of randomized trials included 32 trials and 4,010 patients. Lactobacillus supplementation improved eradication success (RR 1.10; 95% CI 1.05–1.14; NNT 13) and reduced adverse events (RR 0.70; 95% CI 0.58–0.84). Eradication benefit was observed only with triple-therapy regimens; reduced adverse-event risk was observed only among adults.

Heat-killed B. breve B-3 in sarcopenia

A randomized double-blind pilot trial assigned 50 adults with sarcopenia to B-3HK or placebo; 49 were analyzed. B-3HK did not improve knee-extension strength; effect estimate not reported in the abstract. Exploratory secondary findings were unadjusted for multiple comparisons and were not corroborated by DXA or functional outcomes.
